Phoenix Arizona Councilmember
Councilwoman Anna Hernandez is proud to serve the people of Phoenix’s District 7—a place she’s called home her whole life. The daughter of Mexican immigrants and a lifelong Phoenician, Anna brings her lived experience, strong values, and deep connection to the community into her work every day.
Her path into public service is rooted in personal loss. In 2019, Anna’s younger brother, Alex, was killed by Phoenix police while experiencing a mental health crisis. Just two years later, her father passed away from COVID-19 after being forced back to work. These tragedies moved Anna to act—to fight for safety, care, and respect for all families in our city.
Before joining the City Council, Anna served as a State Senator for Arizona’s Legislative District 24. She worked on housing, mental health, reproductive rights, and community safety—always staying close to the people she represented.
In 2024, Anna was elected to represent District 7 on the Phoenix City Council. Today, she continues working alongside neighbors to bring resources into our communities, hold systems accountable, and make sure our city works for everyone.
